Once they finally arrive, the Roman ambassadors find the Senate knows full well about the siege. They insolently demand your unconditional surrender. Hanno the Great, a wealthy artistocrat and your political enemy, speaks out along against you. The rest of the Senate is on your side, listening.  Hanno speaks: "You have dumped fuel on the flame and we will all burn in this fire! Hannibal has broken the treaty by attacking Saguntum and the war that begins with the Saguntines must be waged with the Romans - have you forgotten we lost the war? I hate and detest Hannibal, he should be banished to the farthest shores of the sea to not disturb our tranquil state again. Ambassadors should be sent immediately to Rome to satisfy the senate; others to seize Hannibal; and restitution should be sent to the Saguntines."
