The Making of Hannibal of Carthage (2012)
Created by Mortarboard & Tassel, Hannibal of Carthage (2012) is an educational game that seeks to introduce students, history buffs, and gamers to one of the most remarkable stories of all time. It aspires to impart bits of history and biography in an engaging way through a fun, interactive biography. As a proof of concept rather than a finished game, Hannibal of Carthage is built in Blogger and is nothing more than a series of hyperlinked blog posts. It is hoped that one day the game will be adapted for Android and iOS mobile platforms and benefit from better graphics and animation.

In keeping with its educational mission, Hannibal's aesthetics are inspired Roman bas reliefs as found on Trajan's column (pictured below)....

Text
The text itself is derived from a translation of Livy's account of the Second Punic War, translations of which are widely available on sites such as this. My interpretation of Livy's account (a challenging endeavor perhaps due to what is lost in translation from the original Latin) has been augmented by the close reading of both Wikipedia and the work of Theodore Ayrault Doge, a phenomenal post-Civil War era author and illustrator. Not only was Dodge a palatable choice for his expertise on the subject but also because of the fact that his book, Hannibal: A History of the Art of War Among the Carthaginians and Romans Down to the Battle of Pydna, was published in 1891 and has many illustrations that fall within the parameters of public domain copyright law. These illustrations, along with others I've drawn to mimic Dodge's style, illustrate the game. The combined screenshot with text and image is below. The game interface is intended to be very
clean, consisting of one image and one clip of text no longer than 200
words per post. Images are followed by block of narrative text.
Narrative text is followed by bulleted options from which the gamer can choose.
